SIX DEGREES

This project explores how moiré can transform a visual identity from something that is simply viewed into something that is experienced. Created for Six Degrees, the 2026 graduation exhibition of the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), the identity uses moiré as both a visual technique and a conceptual metaphor. Just as a moiré image only emerges when two separate layers interact, the exhibition celebrates the coming together of multiple disciplines, perspectives and creative practices that collectively define the CAAD community. The exhibition catalogue features a transparent acetate overlay printed with fine linear patterns. As the overlay moves across the cover, the exploding "6" gradually comes into focus, inviting visitors to physically engage with the publication rather than simply observe it. This same interaction was reinterpreted for social media, where Instagram's carousel feature recreates the moiré effect digitally, encouraging users to hold and swipe through posts to gradually reveal the identity. Rather than treating interaction as a decorative feature, the project uses it to reinforce the exhibition's central idea: meaningful outcomes emerge through participation, collaboration and the coming together of individual perspectives.
